I read these only after I listened to the album and wrote my notes for my review. Joe, you couldn't have fashioned a more compelling framework for approaching the album. It really gives anyone coming in cold a way to listen both in the moment and in the context of the era in which it was recorded. And it makes as strong a case for the album to be shared with the world as Forman's songs.

Thank you for my best music read in quite some time. I started reading it having just woken up straight from a link sent by one of my super excited friends without really clueing in to the writer. By halfway I’m thinking “who the fuck writes liner notes like this today?” but now I see the byline and it makes a little sense. The debut has been one of my favourite “sure, but do you know _this_?” records to spring upon other musicians for decades, but still, I’ll be glad to see David get the cumbersome cult he has always deserved.
